While ISIS started as Sunni insurgents, the Al Qaeda in Iraq, fighting Iraqi Shia/America, but they were pretty much dying in Iraq while the US were there. They became stronger when the US left. They had been fighting against the US since the very beginning, claiming that the US provide support to them is just absurd.
