回答: No body in US would equate a JD with a PhD 由 Enlighten 于 2005-3-08, 13:49:04:

Such as in China, JD should be equivilent to a master degree of law for those people whose undergrate study is not in law. In china, it is call 法律 master. For those students whose undergrate study is in law, the master degree is 法xue master. In China, 法律 master is a professonal degree.

JD is called Doctor just in US, even in her neighbour country Canada, JD is just called Bachlor of civil law (B.CL) or Bachelor of common law (B.LL). It is a bachelor degree. This bachelor degree is required to be a lawyer.

Master and Doctor degrees in Canada is called Master of Law (LL. M) and Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L). They are not professional degrees, they are academic.

Of course, if you translate directly, you can translate JD into 法律博士. But does any JD holder change his/her title from Mr. or Ms. to Dr. in US? Does any one call President Clinton Dr. Clinton.

When Clinton visited China, in all Chinese media, President Clinton was called Mr. Clinton.
