boot up test so main board and RAM are probably all ok. If there is no further disk access sound after a few seconds, it's probably a harddrive problem. But I don't understand why you don't see anything on the display. I still suspect video card problem.

You may try to boot off a CD or DVD. There are Linux DVDs that you can run from without needing to install. Try and see if that can help you identify the problem.
