In the America, due to a law in California effectively banned new diesel engine, no much work was done to produce high power and clean diesel engine for passenger cars. Mercedes, BMW, and Vovle all have diesel passenger cars. New diesel engine may even be cleaner due to the use of biofuel and the new design to reduce emition which led the California ban.
