　　Chris Miller关于施一公在Science发表错误论文的来信

　　在被问到是否他解析的晶体结构和施一公解析的晶体结构有没有可能都能成
立时，Chris Miller答复说：

　　我认为两个结构不会都是可靠的。（施一公解析的）大肠杆菌和（Miller解
析的）沙门氏菌的同源蛋白质有99％相似，肯定有相同的结构。按我的意见，施
博士的结构在跨膜螺旋的排位是错误的。我提出这个意见，是根据我们更高分辨
率的结构，清楚地表明侧链密度与施博士建造的螺旋排位不一致。不过，我们的
结构在所有的其他螺旋方面都吻合。

　　I do not consider that both structures are plausible.  The E coli 
and Salmonella homologues are 99% similar and must certainly have 
identical structures.  In my opinion, the register of Dr Shi's 
structure, in the TM helices cited, is wrong. I base this opinion on 
our higher resolution structure, which shows clear side-chain density 
inconsistent with the helical register built by Dr Shi. Our structures, 
however, do agree in all the other helices.
