　　《维纳斯的诞生》英文原书前三页与李继宏先生译著的对比阅读

　　李先生有此言：

　　“就算是这样，我也可以放心地告诉大家，译文决计不会有任何理解上的错
误。如果有读者发现曲解原文之处，我愿意为每处错误支付人民币100元。”

　　我认为不妥。于是找到译著，又在Amazon上找到英文原著的前三页。（请到
Amazon首页，用Dunant搜索，找到Birth of Venus, 找到Excerpt连接。如果出
现红叉叉，要清除cookie，回到Amazon首页，重新再来。）

　　发现李译文笔好，翻译准确，但不是没有问题。以下哪几处是理解错误，旁
人不得而知。如果李先生承认有理解错误，请把钱捐给慈善机构吧。

　　如有不敬，见谅。

　　1. 耶稣也许在加利利出世和死亡，但佛罗伦萨再现了主的生平。在一个布
鲁内莱斯基式花园走廊的拱顶上，天使加百列正在向玛利亚传达神谕；城里的墙
壁展示着三位贤王在托斯卡纳乡间游行的画面和基督的神迹；画里的那些罪犯与
病人身着佛罗伦萨的衣装，围观的人群中不乏名流贤达，他们高鼻深目，眼光落
在教堂前排的座位上，俯视着现实中的生活。

　　Our Lord may have lived and died in Galilee, but his life was 
re-created in the city of Florence. The Angel Gabriel brought God's 
message to Mary under the arches of a Brunelleschian loggia, the Three 
Kings led processions through the Tuscan countryside, and Christ's 
miracles unfolded within our city walls, the sinners and the sick in 
Florentine dress and the crowds of witnesses dotted with public faces: 
a host of thick-chinned, big-nosed dignitaries staring down from the 
frescoes onto their real-life counterparts in the front pews.

　　佛罗伦萨再现了主的生平：这里的意思是主的生平在再现时加入了“佛罗伦
萨的特色”。你看，天使加百列向玛利亚传达神谕是在“布鲁内莱斯基式花园走
廊的拱顶上 [似应为“拱门之下”]”；三位贤王引导游行是在“托斯卡纳[似应
为“托斯卡尼”]乡间；基督的神迹发生在我们城市的城墙之内即在本市境内[不
是“城里的墙壁展示着”]；罪人与病人身着佛罗伦萨的衣装；见证的人群中居
然“不乏[佛罗伦萨的]名流贤达”；他们高鼻深目[长相跟闪米族显然不同]，眼
光落在教堂前排的座位上，俯视着现实生活中[的名流贤达]。

　　这一段，译者似乎有些理解错误。

　　2. 房子四层楼高，有两个内院和一座有围墙的小花园，一楼是父亲谈生意
的地方。

　　... with ... space for my father's business on the ground floor

　　一楼是父亲谈生意的地方: 应该是店铺就在一楼

　　3. 当生活讲究的妈妈开始控制一些奢侈支出的时候

　　my mother's good taste curbed much of the exuberance that attends 
new money

　　大概是：因为我母亲有品位，所以暴发户大肆奢侈的缺点在我家有所抑制

　　4. 那时正值冬天，石栏披着迷蒙的夜雾，以致我去顶替姐姐守望前院的马
匹时，我们在楼梯上撞在了一起。

　　It is winter, and the stone balustrades have a coating of frost as 
my sister and I collide on the stairs in our night shifts, hanging 
over the edge to watch the horses arrive in the main courtyard.

　　夜雾：霜；night shifts：应是睡衣，不是夜班。

　　5. 红色的天鹅绒睡袍紧系在她的脖子上，秀发散披在背后，如一川金色的
河流。

　　脖子当是笔误。 

　　6. 我的女儿们明艳夺目，足以让法国雷恩的女人自惭形秽。

　　The women of Rennes go blind early in the service of my daughter's

　　大概是：因为要装扮我的女儿们，Rennes 的女工必须努力工作，以至于过
早失明。

　　7. 路过的时候我见转轮无休止地朝墙内转去，想像着那些婴儿的啼哭；

　　As we pass I imagine the cries of the infants as the wheel in the 
wall turns inward forever...

　　8. 父亲也曾碰到过一次海难——不过那时他还没钱给教堂捐纪念品，在那

　　boiled capon 不是炸鸡；saffron pudding 中的saffron不光是指颜色

　　10. 普劳蒂拉十分激动，手里的牛奶布丁抖落在桌布上
